Wellcome to the World Frodo & Sam!

Robin hood's ewe, Alaska, had twins yesterday morning. Robin hood named them after Lord of the rings characters. We thought Alaska wasn't having any this year. But she happened to have two healthy white boys. Frodo and Sam are our first white lambs. The rest of our sheep are basically brown or spotted except their mother. This concerned ewe is not their mother, but their devoted Auntie Arabia, who will have at least three of her own soon.

Tasty

Many people have told me that Crappie taste good. It really does, but for all us to get a good taste we had to cut him in pieces ( he is a pretty small one after being flayed). Also I finally figured out an easier way to flay any type of fish. In short, cut along the dorsal fins and the skin just behind the head and gills and pull the skin off without descaling, (Which is the worst part of gutting a fish for me). Then cut the head and tail off wipe out the innards and fry it. Yum yum!

Fishing again

We went fishing to Discovery pond again, but only for a few minutes so we didn't catch very much. But I caught the first Crappie ever caught at our house, too bad he's not bigger. look at the size of his wee little mouth!

SUPER early fishing

This week has been sort of warm, with little bits of spring showers every now and then. One day was especially warm so my sister bunny suggested we go fishing. So even though we didn't have any real chance catching anything, we finished our chores, packed our things and headed to the pond we call discovery pond. It is the closest one to our house, so we didn't have any trouble walking there on foot. We have three fishing ponds near us. This is our 2nd favorite one. Our absolute favorite is featured in the post: September fishing.

When we stuck our poles in the water; fish started nibbling on our bait. My sister Bunny broke the record for the most fish caught in a day at our house, with the number of 9 Blue gills, Ducky came second with 6, and last me, with 4. Unfortunately, they were all small except one of mine so we took it and Ducky's biggest home to eat. But Discovery pond will not last much longer unless somebody who has the money fixes it. Silt, (dirt) is seeping in because of the cows that have been stomping around it.

Spring polliwogs

Ducky took her younger sister and brother hunting for polliwogs,(tadpoles) in our pond today. They caught many quarter sized polliwogs and salamanders. Our baby sister likes holding them until their smooth wet bodies wiggle in her little hands.
I didn't think they would come out till May, But since they did, maybe the fish will be out pretty soon too.

SKUNK!

Ducky and I killed a skunk last week by ourselves, though of course with Aiden. Ducky threw hatchets through the widow wile Aiden kept the skunk in place and I finished it off with a metal fence pole. We didn't get sprayed but Aiden did. But after it was all done we walked through the stink. Our coats stunk up the laundry room though. The skunk was kinda cute though.

I diapered the wrong baby

A couple weeks ago, my mom said '' Tali, will you please diaper your baby sister?'' ''sure.'' I said, shutting my book on training puppies. I got up and went to the Bathroom to get a diaper. I came back and told my little sister to lay down. I began to stick the diaper the tabs, when I realized that I wasn't diapering my sister, I was diapering my puppy.
And she was laying there on her back pretty still so I guess ... well I don't know why I did that. Everybody says I was thinking to much about my dog. It was pretty funny.

Another time I was doing something else, and Ducky said, ''Emma's got something in her mouth'',
When I went to investigate; I found Emma with a pacifier, perfectly set in her mouth the way you would put one in a baby's mouth.

I've been posting on it since Oct.2009, but I didn't think i had stocked it with enough pictures. I still don't think I have a good amount. But oh well, better announce it now then never. It's only got around 15. My blog is called: Tali's studio. In a few more weeks I'll post the address.

Recent updates

Little knight ate a poisonous house plant 2 weeks ago; one minute we were preparing to go to the hospital, and then the next Little knight was ok. He's doing fine now, we gave him a lot of milk.
I finished a drawing of my Grandpa's horse Sep. 2009 but forgot to post. It has it's own mistakes, but it's ok. Emma is five months old now and getting very close to be in heat. I have to make a plan to keep Aiden and Emma separate.

Little Christmas

Christmas has come and gone with a bit of snow, unfortunately not enough to do anything with, and not the right kind to make perfect snow cream. Though last year it snowed 6 in. deep with a crust of ice on top. We made snow men, snow horses, snow cream, and best of all went sledding down our rocky hill. Well that Christmas we busted the sleds on accident .
But this Christmas we had fun without snow. Our family's biggest two hits from Santa this year were Styrofoam jets that were powered by rubber band sling shots, and also by the elder kid's eyes The lord of the rings trilogy special extended DVD edition. The dogs loved their rawhide cow and pig ears.

Also just yesterday, I pulled a half drowned rooster out of cow dung. He looks very dead from the camera's point of view, but we warmed him up by the fire after a good wash, but the rescue itself wasn't as easy. Our chickens take a liking to going out in our neighbor's cow pastures and eating the cow feed set in a big sized feeder on the left of that picture. A incredibly dangerous sinkhole surrounds the feeder like a mote around a castle. Amazing how dung can be so dangerous. Any way, I had to scoot along the foot wide feed trough to get to him. He was all covered in muck, but more alive then others I helped in CA. As soon as I caught hold of his feet, (with some difficulty ) I threw him further out in the muck, (though I'd meant to toss him to the other side), and dad scooped him up with the pitch fork.
Well not that much of a Christmas story, but there it is. A saved rooster and a fun snow less ( mostly) Christmas.

Our nut stash has been broken into!

Around our farm we have a lot of black walnut trees, most of them are down in our sheep pasture. Black walnuts are much sweeter than regular ones, and we have so much that my siblings and I crack one any time we want, but we are not the only ones who like them. I caught these two sneaking from our nut stash in the barn.
